Water-based coating for steel tubes

Selmers provides advanced machinery for cleaning and coating metal tubes with water-based coatings, along with equipment that accelerates the curing process through heat application. Water-based coating for steel tubes is a protective and cosmetic layer applied to steel tubing surfaces using formulations where water serves as the primary solvent or dispersing medium, replacing traditional organic solvents.

Solution:

Selmers’ water-based coating machinery delivers a complete tube processing solution through integrated cleaning, coating, and curing systems. The cleaning phase ensures proper surface preparation for optimal coating adhesion. The coating phase applies the coating material precisely according to specifications. The drying phase guarantees a uniform, fully cured coating layer on the tube surface.

Key Features:

  • Processing speeds up to 130 m/min
  • Rapid 1-second curing using infrared technology
  • PLC control system with intuitive HMI screen
  • Space-saving compact design
  • Energy-efficient operation
  • Consistent results through precision positioning rollers

Advantages:

  • Complete process
  • Full compliance with stringent European and US regulations
  • Immediate post-coating handling capability
  • High degree of automation
  • Minimal volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions
  • Full spectrum of color options available
  • Compatible with multiple tube geometries (profiles and round tubes)

How It Works:

The water-based coating process begins with comprehensive surface preparation, including cleaning to remove contaminants such as dirt, oil, and rust, ensuring optimal coating adhesion. This preparation utilizes either washing or blasting methods, selected based on the incoming substrate’s surface condition.

The prepared tubes then pass through the coating system, which applies a uniform water-based coating layer. Application methods include spray coating or vacuum coating techniques.

Finally, the coated tubes undergo a controlled drying process. This can occur at ambient temperature through air drying or in specialized drying equipment using hot air or infrared radiation. The drying phase ensures complete water evaporation from the coating, leaving a uniform, fully cured protective layer.

The Full Scope:

Handling Equipment:

Cleaning Phase: Washing or blasting systems

Coating Phase: Vacuum or spray coating application

Drying Phase: Ambient air drying, convection ovens, or infrared curing systems

Product Range:

0,5’’ till 20’’ round tubes and almost any form of profile.
