Holiday detection
After a coating is applied on the steel pipe surface, the coating can be tested for pinholes by means of a holiday detection unit (porosity tester). A holiday detection unit is a non destructive test which uses high DC voltage for the detection of pinholes.

Selmers provides several solutions for in-plant holiday inspection, such as in-line in a wheel or diabolic roller conveyor system, off-line in a dedicated holiday inspection station or with a holiday detection brush mounted on a lance for internal pipe coating holiday inspection.

How It Works:
A holiday detection unit uses a high DC voltage device equipped with a brush which is in direct contact with the coated surface. Once a pinhole is detected, visible and audible alarm signals appear and the approx. spot is marked with a paint gun for later treatability and repair.
The Full Scope:
Selmers provides a comprehensive range of additional equipment that complements the Holiday detection System:
- Conveyor systems: For in-line holiday inspection. Can be a wheel (helix) conveyor or a diabolic (endo) roller conveyor.
- Pipe rotation units: For off-line inspection. In this case the inspection brush will move over the pipe length by means of an overhead frame and trolly.
- Lance system: For internal holiday inspection pipe is rotated on pipe rotation units and the lance equipped with a holiday detection brush will travel trough the pipe.
