Weld seam compensator
The Weld Seam Compensation System (WSC) increases the amount of coating material on top of the longitudinal weld seam during the application of a PE/PP-layer in a side extrusion pipe coating process. Fully automated and versatile, the WSC can be integrated into both new and existing (non-Selmers) extruders, helping you reduce waste, save costs, improve sustainability and improve on capacity.
Solution:
Traditional side extrusion systems coat the entire pipe with a uniform layer, leading to excessive material use. While the longitudinal weld seam needs more protection, applying this thickness across the entire pipe wastes material and increases costs.
The Weld Seam Compensation System solves this inefficiency by detecting weld seams and dynamically adjusting the extruder output to apply extra coating material only where it’s needed. The rest of the pipe receives the standard layer, ensuring material savings without compromising durability.
Key Features:
- Contactless Weld Seam Detection: Precisely identifies the longitudinal weld seam without physical contact.
- Automated Coating Adjustment: Dynamically adjusts extruder output for targeted application.
- Customizable Settings: Adjustable for various pipe diameters and production capacities.
- Double Injection Capability: Alternating cylinders provide consistent filling time for small-diameter pipes.
- Highly Automated System: Operated by a PLC with weld seam detection sensors.
- Flexible Integration: Compatible with both Selmers and non-Selmers extruders.
Benefits:
- Material Savings: Potential savings up to 12% reduction in coating material.
- Lower CO₂ Emissions: Save a lot of CO₂ annually.
- Uniform Coating Quality: Double injection capability ensures consistent results, even for challenging small diameter pipe sizes.
- Quick ROI: Significant material savings ensure rapid return on investment.
- Enhanced Sustainability: Reduce waste, meet sustainability targets, and comply with regulations like CSRD.
- Operational Efficiency: Reduce operator intervention and material handling needs while maintaining consistent coating quality.
- Integration Flexibility: Integration into existing lines.
How It Works:
The Weld Seam Compensation System is installed between the flathead die and the PE screen in a side extrusion pipe coating process. Contactless sensors detect the exact location of the longitudinal weld seam, triggering the extruder to apply additional coating material directly onto the seam. For smaller-diameter pipes, the WSC uses two alternating cylinders to allow extra filling time. This ensures precise coverage of the weld seam while minimizing waste on the rest of the pipe.
