The Robotic Coating Thickness Measurement (CTM) measures SFBE, DFBE, 3LPE/PP and liquid coatings. Individual layer thicknesses, as well as total thickness at critical spots like seam tops can be monitored and reported continuously. The robot will be installed in the external coating application area. The results of the measurement are displayed on a monitor for operator convenience and can be recorded in the PLC system for logging. The system can be used to proof the coating thickness on a pipe as well as to aid the optimization of the applied coating with regard to minimizing the surplus coating.
Advantages:
Autonomous system, no need for settings or adjustments by personnel
Automatic adjustment to a difference in pipe diameters
Automatic coating thickness control
Reduction possibility in the consumption of coating material
Continuous proof of layer thickness on the whole pipe
Simple to operate – no robotics expertise required!
How it Works
The system is to be placed in a coating line, preferably close to the coating application area. Depending on the configuration of the equipment in this area, the robot possibly needs to be placed on a pedestal. A special configured sensor setup is used to determine the pipe diameter and environmental obstacles for the robot.
The multilayer thickness measurement sensor is attached at the end of the robot arm. The pulses for the measuring sensor, based on terahertz technology, penetrate the multi-layer coating and are reflected at each individual layer surface. This makes it possible to measure the individual layer thicknesses at the same time.
