Successfully managing the tasks of coating pipes, tubes and monopiles, demands precise execution, paired with substantial power. Our newly upgraded Extruder for coating applications accomplishes precisely that. Boasting a power range that rivals that of a Formula 1 racing car!
Pipes are typically first cleaned after which three or more layers of coating are applied. The first layer is a powder coating that protects the pipes against corrosion, followed by a thin adhesive layer, and finally a plastic layer that mainly offers protection against mechanical stresses. This could typically be a 3-layer polyethylene (3LPE) or polypropylene (3LPP) pipe coating for instance. For the second layer, Selmers’ Extruder is designed.
Let the race begin!
In both racing and industry, power is the unsung hero. For this reason our latest Extruder has an even more powerful engine. Where Verstappen has to accept the limits of a 900 Kilowatt motor, we perform the coating application with a 1 Megawatt (AC) motor! But that’s not the only improved aspect of our new Extruder.
One size fits all
Selmers new Extruder can cope with higher output ranges, both in the lower and higher spectrum. As a result, our customers do not have to deploy different machines for different coating capacities anymore. One machine coats both the bigger and smaller pipes. Another improvement is the output stabilization. This is obtained by a frequency converter and an optimized screw design. The result is an increased overall output, as well as a higher output density of the coating material per Kw.
Added Features
Added features are more controllable heating, as well as cooling, which result in further stabilization of the performance. But most importantly, we added the interpretation of data for processing performance. This creates a repeatability of specific settings, ensuring a continuous, measurable quality that meets the continually rising industry standards and norms. Unique is the fact that even the processing requirements of the material can now be used for optimization, leading to reduced use of raw material for the same coating!
Data tracking with repeatable setting
The regulators generate a multitude of data during the machine’s use, for which it creates status reports. Such as the number of starts and stops, the number of hours a machine runs, at which speed, but also the motor current consumed. The total facts and figures of the complete process equipment is measured, like heating, cooling, line interface, conveying speed, pitch settings, and correlates back to the key process execution. All this information is stored in a built-in module that could also be accessed by management via Ethernet, EtherCAT, or other forms of bus communication.
