The systems consist of three separate layers

3LPE/3LPP coating

Three-Layer Polyethylene (3LPE) and Three-Layer Polypropylene (3LPP) coatings provide robust, corrosion-resistant protective layers for pipes used in various industries, including oil, gas, water infrastructure, the chemical industry, offshore, and marine. The systems consist of three separate layers: a corrosion protective layer, an adhesive layer, and a topcoat layer. The base of these systems is the Fusion Bonded Epoxy (FBE) layer, which offers excellent corrosion resistance and serves as a strong foundation for subsequent layers. The 3LPE system uses polyethylene as the top layer, while the 3LPP system uses polypropylene. These multi-layer systems offer high-performance protection against environmental and mechanical stresses, ensuring the durability and reliability of pipes throughout their lifecycle.

Solution:

Using Selmers’ high-output and broad range extruders, both the 3LPE and 3LPP coating processes apply an adhesive layer and a top-coat layer over a Fusion Bonded Epoxy (FBE) primer. The FBE layer is electrostatically applied as a powder and then cured to form a durable, corrosion-resistant base coat. These multi-layer systems are designed for a variety of pipe diameters and offer unmatched protection against corrosion, moisture, chemicals, and physical damage.

  • FBE Process: Applied as a powder to pre-heated pipes, FBE melts and cures into a tough, thermoset protective layer, forming the essential base for multi-layer coating systems.
  • 3LPE Solution: The process applies an adhesive layer and a top-coat layer of polyethylene over the FBE primer.
  • 3LPP Solution: The process applies an adhesive layer and a top-coat layer of polypropylene over the FBE primer.

Both systems provide superior mechanical protection and are suitable for a wide range of pipe diameters.

Key Features:

  • Cost Efficiency: Proven cost-effective solutions, reducing operational expenditures and enhancing the overall value of the coating system.
  • Know-How: With decades of experience, Selmers provides valuable expertise, ensuring optimal performance in every installation and operation.

How It Works:

After a pipe is loaded onto the conveying system, it accelerates to match the previous pipe’s speed, ensuring consistent processing. The pipe is heated to the required temperature, and the 3LPE or 3LPP coating is applied. The coated pipe then moves through the quenching tunnel to cool and solidify the coating, ready for further handling without damaging the protective layers.

The Full Scope:

  • Complete 3LPE and 3LPP coating lines, including pipe handling/conveying systems, heating systems, and quenching tunnels.
  • Additional equipment for blast cleaning, acid wash, pipe-end cleaning, and more.
  • Optional features to enhance safety and reduce labor requirements, along with advanced automation options like the Selmers Plant Management System (SPMS).
  • Automation Capabilities: With Selmers’ Plant Management System (SPMS), automation further enhances efficiency, streamlining the entire process and improving overall plant performance.

Product Range:

  • Diameter Range: Supports pipe diameters from 4½” to 144” for wrap extrusion processes and 2⅜” to 24” for sleeve extrusion processes.
  • Pipe Lengths: Up to 25.6 meters.
  • Pipe Wall Thickness: Up to 2” (50.8 mm).
  • Plant Capacity: Up to 1,000 m²/hr.
  • Automation Levels: From low to high automation, offering flexibility for various project needs.
